The pediatric services we provide are defined by community need as they are not available or accessible via government-sponsored healthcare programs for low-income families. Patient enrollment begins with a socioeconomic assessment of financial need. If the family qualifies, our pediatrician or psychologist will perform a general consultation and design a course of treatment. All costs including specialist consultations, medications, therapies, diagnostic tests, and travel are funded by Padrino until the child is successfully discharged from our care.
Our patients require a full spectrum of medical attention from common childhood conditions to serious hormone therapy, organ transplant support, and epileptic care. This program includes general and specialist consultations, surgeries, physical therapies, medications, medical aids, social work counseling, laboratory testing and imaging studies, as well as travel expense coverage.
Mental health evaluation is a cornerstone of our collaborative care model. Individual, family, and group counseling therapies are provided to children exhibiting mental illness or behavioral disorders, who are living in at-risk situations, or who suffer from various forms of abuse. When necessary, a pediatric psychiatrist is engaged, and medication therapy may be employed.
We offer therapy for children with neurodevelopmental delays and disorders such as Cerebral Palsy and autism spectrum disorders. After medical, psychological, and social work evaluations, the children may receive personalized, multidisciplinary treatment plans including specialist care, family psychotherapy, and physical and speech therapies to stimulate sensorial and motor skills, communication, and vocational skills for social adaptation.
We participate in the iHope Program, helping families in the state of Baja California Sur end their diagnostic odyssey. We employ whole genome sequencing (WGS), genetic counseling, and the world’s richest genomic database to diagnose rare conditions, and we do this free of charge. Without this program, families in BCS may never receive an accurate diagnosis because WGS is not otherwise available in Mexico.
We conduct medical evaluation clinics and educational outreach workshops periodically for underserved children in locations such as our internado, albergue, migrant camps, and local schools. We also conduct specialty health screenings, such as vision clinics where eye exams, medications, and eyewear are provided.
Approximately 120 children receive our care each month. Each is an individual with unique needs, challenges, and hopes for the future. Some are with us for only a short time while others will remain in our care for years.
